FAQs

Mid-20th-century oil paintings on board typically feature artist-grade oil pigments applied to rigid supports like Masonite or millboard, often reflecting post-war realism or impressionist influences.

These works commonly use linseed oil-based paints, natural resin varnishes, wooden or composition boards, and traditional gesso primers.

Authenticity is assessed through signature analysis, pigment testing, examination of board age and stamp markings, and stylistic consistency with the attributed period.

Pairing traditional landscapes with minimalist framing or hanging them within a curated gallery wall creates a sophisticated balance between historic character and contemporary design.

Preservation requires stable indoor humidity, avoidance of direct sunlight to prevent varnish yellowing, and gentle dusting with a soft, dry microfibre cloth.
