The artist used very delicate pastel colours to add some mystery to the scenery with some vivid turquoise and slightly golden beige.
Condition:
In excellent gallery condition having been cleaned and relined by a local conservator in 2001.

James Salt (1850-1903)
English artist painting mainly scenes of Venice in oils but with a gentle colouring and atmospheric feel.
The artist traditionally called James Salt, whose output seems to have been confined to Venetian capricci and about whom hardly anything is recorded, is more likely to be identified with Thomas Salt, born at Woolstanton, Staffordshire In the 1891 census his trade was given as 'decorative painter (artist)'
