This landscape oil painting a rural country scene is signed “A.H.” in the bottom right-hand corner, but the artist initials are unknown to us. This small picture originated from a country property in Shropshire, England. The sketch depicts a small thatched cottage on the left-hand side, with the fire lit and smoke rising out of the chimney. A woman and child can be seen walking down a country track, that disappears into the background of what looks like a windmill, with trees and rolling snow-capped hills in the background, below cloudy skies and a flock of bird’s mid-air.
This small Victorian oil painting oil painting was probably painted early afternoon, revealing winter colours. The small picture has the skill to draw you in with its range of rustic colour hues and texture, depicting the quintessential English country scene. It’s a peaceful and nostalgic scene of a bygone era and it’s a study one would not tire of viewing. The Victorian oil picture is framed in its original ornate gilt frame, which is in good original condition and contains the original backboards.
