FAQs

Mid-20th-century landscape oil paintings typically feature expressive brushwork, capturing natural light and atmospheric conditions with a focus on regional topography and rural scenes.

These pieces generally comprise an oil painting executed on artist board or canvas, housed within a moulded timber or gesso frame, often gilded or finished with patinated metallic paint.

Authenticity is determined by examining the canvas or board substrate, the ageing of the oil paint layers under magnification, artist signatures, and any handwritten inscriptions, labels, or stamps on the verso.

A vintage landscape painting can be styled by hanging it as a focal point above a sideboard or fireplace, or by incorporating it into a curated gallery wall to contrast with modern furnishings.

Preservation involves keeping the painting away from direct sunlight and high humidity, avoiding harsh chemical cleaners on the canvas or frame, and occasionally dusting the surface with a soft, dry brush.
