Prometheus Antiques has dated this piece to the 1890s.
This work retains on the reverse the original exhibition label which shows it was one of Wilde’s works exhibited at Nottingham Castle. The painting retains the original gilt frame which is in amazing untouched condition. Wilde nearly always painted along the Trent in Nottingham and it is likely that this scene depicted is from that area. The whole has a wonderful feeling of time and place. C.1890.
