Pair of Prints with Superb Gilt Frames

A pair of fine quality Edwardian period prints in superb gilt frames. The prints depict January and November from a series of the months of the year by the artist William Allingham. The pair were produced as stipple engravings by the printmakers G.J.Howell and Company of London. The prints have very unusually been printed on vellum, because of the nature of this the prints have crinkled somewhat as they have dried over time. The pair are mounted in the original superb quality gilt frames some of the best I have seen. The frames retain the original soft gilding and substantial concave slips with applied neoclassical mouldings. The pair have a great decorative impact and classic look. C.1910.
