Summer Vegetation by the River, Ca 1960, French Fauve Abstracted Landscape Oil on Board

Description

A bold and exuberant abstracted landscape that will not fail to cheer you! Reminiscent of the early "Fauves" such as Vlamick and Derain, this is a mid century work by Georges Taillefer (b 1921), an artist who was mostly active in in Normandy.

An oil on hardboard, our painting is signed at the lower right.

The work was originally acquired in a Paris auction in 1992 when part of the artist's studio was dispersed. Taped to the verso are extracts from the catalogue. The work presented here was lot no. 158, depicting the Seine at "La Fontaine" in the "Meanders of the Seine Natural Park. This regional nature reserve boasts a unique combination of light and landscapes, much of which was a source of inspiration for painters such as Turner, Boudin, Sisley and Signac.

Measuring 46 x 55 cm, the overall framed size in a period frame by Paris master framers Delf is 59 x 68 cm.
