A fine example of an oriental school portrait by Raymond Tellier.
Tellier studied initially at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Douai followed by Lille and Paris. He was a highly regarded portrait artist. His work is full of charm humour and style.
He spent some time in French West Africa and decorated the governor’s palace in Dakar (the capital of Senegal). After winning the Prix de L’Afrique Equatoriale Francaise (French Equatorial Africa prize) he made an extended visit to the region.

Tellier’s oriental paintings are particularly sought after.
