Pierre Cornu was born in Salon-de-Provence, commonly known as Salon, a commune located northwest of Marseille in the region of Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, Southern France.
He was influenced by the Fauvists in particular by the painting of Cézanne and Bonnard. Fauvism can be seen as an extreme extension of post-impressionism.
Like Bonnard he painted only for the joy of painting and to create frozen moments of happiness in time.
He exhibited regularly with René Auguste Chabaud and Seyssaud in Marseille.
