This nineteenth-century Victorian framed print is a 3D optical illusion lithograph depicting figures in a boat within an oval aperture, presented in a moulded gilt wooden frame. The composition includes a vertical slatted overlay across the central paper image, surrounded by a black eglomise glass border with a painted gold outer ring. The wooden frame has a bright gold finish with stepped, linear mouldings. Signs of age include faint surface marks across the dark glass surround and minor wear along the inner gilt decoration. The object measures 26 cm high, 32 cm wide, 5 cm deep, making it suited for placement on a narrow wall space in a gentleman's library or study. It hangs well individually or within a curated arrangement of period wall art.

These pieces are novelty prints produced during the nineteenth century that utilize slatted, stepped, or angled paper construction to present shifting scenes or changing images as the viewer moves past the picture.

They were crafted by cutting lithographic prints into precise vertical strips and mounting them on angled paper ridges or behind slatted grilles, creating a composite image that shifts based on perspective.

Authentic period examples exhibit characteristics of original hand-colouring or early stone lithography, period-appropriate rag paper with natural age toning, and original wooden frames with hand-cut glass or eglomise mounts.

Position the piece in a hallway, staircase, or focal wall where viewers naturally walk past to fully experience the dynamic visual change, or pair it alongside framed mechanical drawings and period curiosities.

Display the print away from direct sunlight and high humidity to prevent fading and foxing, dust the frame gently with a dry microfibre cloth, and avoid applying glass cleaner directly to original glazing.
