A Rare Arundel Society Chromolithograph of the Annunciation Jan Van Eyck

After Jan van Eyck Ghent alters pice.

This delightful triptych was drawn and chromolithograph by Christian Schultz (1817-1882) and printed by Hangard Mauge for the first Arundel Society publication.

The Arundel Society was founded in London in 1849 and named after the 17th-century art collector, Thomas Howard, the Earl of Arundel. The society’s purpose was to promote knowledge of the artworks of Italian, Flemish, and other European masters.

An interesting fact, when Schultz drew and chromolithograph the annunciation it would most likely have had yellowed and cloudy varnish and had been overpainted.

Restoration of the Ghent alter pice completed in 2021
