Nelson & Wellington: Fine Framed Baxter Prints

19th century
Description

A very good quality Pair of BAXTER PRINTS, depicting Admiral Lord Nelson and the Duke of Wellington in fine detail. Both retain their full original vibrant colour and are within their original rosewood frames with particularly fine gilded and engraved inner slip frames. Excellent condition. About 7.5ins square (21 x 19.5cms). c1845-60 Priced for the pair. ** NB: These are glazed; the images are perfect; apologies for the reflections in the glass!)

** George Baxter (1804-1867) patented a process of colour printing in 1835. This process made up his life’s work, producing many illustrations for books and stand-alone prints. The quality of his prints reflects the techniques he invented and refined, whilst the subject matter reflected much that was noteworthy in Victorian life.
