Horse In Stable Oil Painting By E.J.Hoy

A charming provincial oil on canvas portrait of a prized horse. The painting is typical of provincial animal portraits in that the focus is purely the horse standing proud in a simple stable setting. The horse is beautifully painting and in great detail even down to the plaited tail with ribbons. The horse is named Risegate Flower which indicates that the horse came from Risegate in Lincolnshire. The age of the animal of nine years is also given. The volume numbers below the name will probably relate to a breed record. The work is signed E.J.Hoy who is not well recorded but likely refers to Edward John Hoy he appears to have been a journeyman artist working painting mainly animals. The piece is also dated to 1903. The painting is in good condition and has had some light professional restorations to very minor paint loss and the canvas has been wax lined to give extra stability.
