Cloisonne is a decorative technique where fine metal wires or strips are soldered onto a metal vessel or figure to create separated compartments (cloisons). These sections are then filled with coloured enamel powder pastes, fired at high temperatures, and polished smooth to expose the gilded wire borders.

These figures were cast in bronze or copper alloys before wirework was meticulously applied to outline surface patterns. Multiple applications of vitreous enamels were fired into the cloisons, followed by gilded bronze accents on the tusks, saddle, and decorative fittings.

Authentic pieces from this period exhibit detailed wirework, slight imperfections or pinholes in the fired enamel surface, and natural oxidisation on unglazed bronze surfaces. The gilding often shows honest age-related wear, and the copper body maintains substantial physical weight.
