French Still Life Oil Painting

A charming and decorative still life oil on wooden panel. The work focuses on a stone bust of a cherub with just a single rose placed at the base. The piece is really an exercise in painting light on stone which works very well using an impressionist technique. The painting is not signed and I would think, particularly with it being numbered on the reverse that it was possibly an art school piece. The work is in excellent untouched condition. The gilt frame is of the period but not original to the artwork and it does frame it beautifully. The frame has been over gilt and coloured at some point but is in excellent condition. The whole has a great decorative appeal and is ready to hang. C.1900.
