A rare original etching dating from 1914 by Sir Frank Brangwyn RA RBS RBA, referenced in Gaunt under the nr. 232.
Brangwyn was born in Bruges to an Anglo-Welsh father and Welsh mother from Brecon. The family moved back to Britain and by the age of fifteen Brangwyn was studying under designer and socialist William Morris. As he became successful as a painter, etcher and lithographer, Brangwyn began to travel widely across the world, including to France and Paris, where the present etching was conceived. Brangwyn had an international reputation at the time of the First World War and was a member of the Senefelder Club, which promoted the medium of lithography.
In different states, this etching can be found in the National Museum of Wales and in the Art Gallery of NSW in Sydney, the William Morris Gallery Museum in London.
The plate/image size of the etching is 50.8 x 60.4 cm on a sheet of wove paper measuring 66 x 76 cm. It is hand signed in pencil at the lower right. The artwork is offered in its original 1900s natural oak frame.
