The painting is presented and supplied in a sympathetic frame and mount which dates from the 1990s (which is shown in these photographs).
This antique painting is in good condition, defying its age. It is supplied ready to hang and display.

The watercolour is signed lower right.
Herbert Nye was an English artist and sculptor, active at the end of the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. His birth is registered in St James, Westminster in March 1858. He lived and worked from London, then Walton on Thames, then Pulborough in Sussex.

He exhibited at the leading galleries of the day between 1885 and 1927, including the Royal Institute and the Royal Academy, where he exhibited 17 works. He also made nine etchings for Garnett’s edition of Vathek by William Beckford, in 1893.

Nye married Charlotte Stone (b.1867 Deptford), who was also an artist, in Fulham, London, in 1893. The 1911 census has them recorded as living in Fittleworth, Sussex. They went on to have two sons and a daughter.

Herbert Nye’s death is registered as 20th December 1954 in Pulborough, Sussex.
