A luminous and lightly cubist composition depicting a little girl pattering on what might well be the only street of a mountain hamlet. What wonderful freedom for a child to be able to roam this way!
The painting, a lovely example of 1920s art, is a work by woman artist Hélène Catherine Batault. Born in Geneva in Switzerland 1890, Hélène moved to Paris as a young woman. She she exhibited notably at the Salon des Indépendants, where her work was noted and praised by critics.
Our oil on canvas is signed at the upper left and measures 60 x 73 cm. The overall size in a patinated box frame is 63 x 76 cm.
