Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This nineteenth-century Chinese Export hardwood jardiniere stand combines traditional craftsmanship with decorative utility. It has a dark brown finish and stands 87.5 cm high, 38.5 cm wide, and 38.5 cm deep. The circular top holds an inset marble panel above a shaped apron pierced and carved with motifs of bottle gourds and leaves. An open circular lower undertier sits between four slender legs that feature carved leaf details and terminate in ball and claw feet. In a contemporary home, this stand suits placement in an empty corner or a sunlit conservatory to display plants, ceramics, or decorative objects. Its compact footprint makes it practical for smaller spaces while providing two display surfaces. The clean dark timber and intricate pierced carving add textural interest to traditional or eclectic interiors.

FAQs

A Chinese hardwood jardiniere stand is a tall, decorative pedestal originally designed in East Asia to elevate flower pots, urns, or bonsai displays. These stands typically feature intricate hand-carved aprons, lower tiers, and inset marble tops to protect the wooden surface from moisture.

Traditional examples are constructed from dense tropical hardwoods such as hongmu, rosewood, or zitan, using traditional mortise-and-tenon joinery without metal nails. The tops frequently feature inset panels of natural variegated marble, granite, or slate.

Traditional stands demonstrate frame-and-panel joinery without modern screws, heavy physical weight due to dense hardwood timber, and hand-carved openwork along the frieze. Natural grain variation in the timber and subtle irregularities in the carved relief also indicate hand fabrication.

These versatile stands function effectively as display pedestals for modern ceramics, sculptural objects, or indoor foliage plants. Positioned in an entryway, bay window, or alcove, the dark timber finish creates visual contrast alongside contemporary furnishings.

Dust the wood frame regularly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth and apply natural beeswax sparingly to maintain the timber finish. Clean the inset marble top using a soft cloth dampened with pH-neutral water, avoiding acidic substances that can etch stone surfaces.
