Cottage Watercolour by Mary S Hagarty

1900 - 1920
Description

A fine watercolour landscape scene depicting a very pleasing view through autumnal trees to cottages by a lane. The work has a beautiful feel of Autumn about it with the leaves turning brown on the trees and a blue/grey sky. The watercolour is mounted behind an off-white slip of large size that really helps to draw the eye into the work. The gilt frame is modern as is the mount and both are in very good condition. The watercolour is in very good untouched condition with the colours bright and fresh. The piece is signed in full to the lower left ‘M.S.Hagarty’. Miss Mary. S. Hagarty is a well recorded artist and also the sister of a similar artist of note; Parker Hagarty. Mary was a confirmed watercolourist and most of her work is landscape. She exhibited from 1882-1938 including often at the Royal Academy where views listed are: the Wye and Severn Valleys and the East Anglian Coast. Her exhibitor address has her living in Liverpool in 1882 but by 1896 she was in London. She was elected an associate of the Society of Woman Artist in 1915 and made a full member in 1916. Her exhibited works include 8 at The Royal Society of Art Birmingham, 189 at The Walker Art Gallery Liverpool, 26 at The Royal Academy, 58 at The Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolour, and 93 at The Society of Woman Artists. This work is a fine example of her art and a charming, bright picture in excellent condition. C.1910

Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
