Oil Painting Of Terriers By William Eddowes Turner

A fine and charming oil on artist board of a group of three terriers by William Eddowes Turner (1836-1904). The work is beautifully done and captures the dogs perfectly as they all stand alert and looking to the left in a barn setting. The piece is titled on the reverse: The right sort. The painting is in excellent condition having been professionally cleaned and is signed to the lower right W.Turner. William Eddowes Turner was born in Nottingham, a self-taught artist of animals, particularly cattle, in both oil and watercolour. He exhibited at the British Institution and Suffolk Street and locally in Nottingham 1858-1862. He died at Radford, Nottinghamshire in 1904. He is a highly regarded provincial animal artist. This work is in the original gilt frame which is in good antique condition with some areas of restoration. The whole is a great dog painting capturing the nature of the terrier perfectly. C.1890.
