Åslund travelled over 1,300km to get here from his home in Stockholm. But travelling extensively was nothing new for this seasoned wanderer.
Here, amid icy-cold conditions, desolate trees, and dramatic peaks, he’s captured the view with skill and feeling. Working rapidly, which is understandable given the temperature.
Prior to completing this piece, he’d undertaken study trips to Copenhagen, Munich, Paris, Rome and London. Restless and continually seeking inspiration.
Signed and indistinctly dated lower left. Framed.

Condition: Artwork presents well. The frame is rather tired but we've retained it as it's almost certainly original.

Elis Åslund (1872-1956) was an accomplished Swedish painter, sculptor and illustrator known predominantly for landscapes, portraits and figures. He trained in Stockholm and later at the Académie Colarossi in Paris. He’s represented at the National Museum and had the honour of a Royal commission when he painted King Gustaf V. His brother, Helmer Osslund, and son, Carl Daniel Åslund, were also artists. His sister, Frida Åslund, was a writer.
