Sunlight cascades across the sheen of polished furniture. Pristine curtains flutter, caught by a gentle breeze. Ceramic ornaments adorn antique sideboards. Perhaps a reclusive character, he tended to paint within his own four walls rather than venture out into nature.
This piece from 1928 is a fine example of his talent. Note the light as it catches the gilt-framed artworks, the pot plant on the window sill - viewed through the net, and the reflection in the mirror on the left. Note too the faint outline of a figure in the chair, painted out for reasons unknown.
Signed/dated lower right and framed.
