Brave Fine Art has dated this piece to the 1800s.
Two figures, perhaps a mother and child, converse in the doorway of a quaint thatched cottage. While a third figure, a bonneted woman, carries a bundle under her right arm. Washing hangs over a nearby gate. Beyond, further dwellings peek from behind leafy foliage.
This was an area that Pennington knew personally. He was born in Liverpool and died at Everton Terrace.
In the early 19th century it was developed due to a demand for housing, so this could be the only lasting image of these charming buildings.
Held within a gilt frame.
