The figure is signed to the bronze V Seifert and has a foundry signature for Gladenbeck foundry in Berlin. The figure stands on a marble base which as a small old repair to the marble. The figure is in excellent original condition with expected wear to the patina. An elegant figure and a superb example of Art Nouveau sculpture

Victor Heinrich Seifert was born on May 1870 in Dobling, Vienna, the son of a garden inspector. He studied in Vienna and Munich before going to the Berlin Academy of Art where he was taught by Ernst Herter, Ludwig Manzel and Peter Breuer. He went on a number of study tours travelling to Paris, Brussels, Italy and London, however he made Berlin his home. He produced many genre sculptures and was well known for female figures, military subjects and Teutonic warriors. Seifert was commissioned to produce a number of monuments and memorials such as the statue of Otto von Bismarck and the Aeronaut monument near Berlin. He was a member of the Artists Cooperative and the Artists Union of the Sculptor. Many of his monuments can still be seen today and examples of his work can be found in museums and Art Galleries such as the Hermitage Museum, St Petersberg in Russia.
