Sannemann had an eye for colour, never one to shy away from a vivid composition. Here, the blooms are effervescent, buoyant and spirited. Even more so following a recent clean.
We've been in touch with his family who shared an amusing story. Apparently his wife would bring flowers in from the garden and arrange these in a vase for him. But once she left the room, he would alter the arrangement.
This is a splendid example of his work.

(Otto) Paul Sannemann was an accomplished German painter of landscapes and still lifes. He spent most of his life in Berlin and his style is characterised by loose impressionist brushwork coupled with strong colouring.
