Oil Painting Of Polperro, Cornwall By Frederick T.W. Cook

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: Prometheus Antiques

A wonderful mid-century oil on canvas depicting the harbour at Polperro in Cornwall by the artist Fredrick T.W.Cook 1907-1982. The work has a wonderful modernist feel to it of bold colours and shapes typical of English art of the mid twentieth century. The piece is in excellent untouched condition and is signed to the lower right. Frederick T.W.Cook was a London-born artist who studied at The Hampstead School of Art. During World War II he was an official fireman-artist and painted works that are now in the collection of the Imperial War Museum. In 1947 he moved to Polperro, Cornwall where he spent the rest of his life. In the 40’s and 50’s he exhibited at The Royal Academy and in 1956 he had an exhibition at the Trafford Gallery London. This piece is a wonderful example of his work and retains what is likely the original gilt frame with hessian slip. The whole has a great period look and is ready to hang. C.1950.
