Prometheus Antiques has dated this piece to the Georgian era.
The pair are typical of provincial work from the period showing a romantic representation of the workers of the time. The quality of the paintings is very good but typically for this regional type of work they are unsigned. The condition of the works is very good, they will have been cleaned at some point in the last few years. The paintings both have some slight craquelure as is typical for oils of this type and age. The frames are almost certainly the original which have been restored and regilt probably at the time the paintings were cleaned. The frames have been worn and antiqued giving them a great period look. The Frames do retain the original makers labels on the reverse for H. Salmon of Bridgwater in Somerset. The pair have a wonderful country house look and are ready to hang. C.1800.
