McTague of Harrogate has dated this piece to the 1930s.
He travelled widely and lived at Hinderwell near Staithes, where as a member of the Staithes Group of Painters he painted many local scenes. Examples of his work are in the Imperial War Museum, Leeds, Wakefield, Whitby, Harrogate and several other Public and private collections.

This watercolour shows a view at Ellerby in Yorkshire. The watercolour measures 9"x 12" and is signed lower left and dated 1928. It is framed giving an overall size of 17"x 19". It is inscribed on the back of the frame "Ellerby, Yorkshire, a view near Runswick Bay".
