Description

Romanian woman artist Irène Deschly (1860-1920) was born in Bucharest. She went to study painting in Paris, where she would study at the Academie Julian with the academic masters William Bouguereau and Gabriel Ferrier, thanks to a scholarship from the Romanian government. She participated in the Paris Universal Exhibition of 1900, where she obtained the bronze medal, with her painting Chanson. She also exhibited at the Salons des Indépendants of 1902 and 1903. While Irène initially worked in the academic tradition, in our painting, dating from the early 20th Century, she has truly found her own voice and is free from the influence of her academic teachers. It is a very sensitive, modern and personal work.
