An Amusing & Charming 19th Century Oil Painting

Description

Albert W. Holden: an amusing and very well composed OIL PAINTING on canvas, depicting two gentlemen enjoying a glass or two of punch. On the left one man has clearly just returned from riding, wearing a riding coat and boots, whilst the other, sporting a beige waistcoat and smoking a long clay pipe, may have been working as there are a number of papers and documents at his feet. Between them is a punch bowl and ladle together with two green glasses, which clearly are regularly being filled! Signed and dated lower left: Albert W. Holden 1886. 16 x 19ins (40 x 48cms) including the frame.

** Albert William Holden: (1848-1932), British painter, also known as Professor Holden. A painting by him is currently in the Welcome Collection.
