A large mid-19th century portrait of a gentleman in a gilt frame. English School. Oil on canvas. The subject is a well-dressed gentleman of middle age dressed in a black suit, white shirt and seated in a reading chair. The body is loosely painted, however the face and neck show more attention to detail with the face in particular showing wonderful verve. The frame is in tact and remarkably sound.

Please note: The white flecks on the pictures are cobwebs rather than imperfections.
