Miniature Landscape Oil Painting By Charles Branwhite

A charming miniature oil on board by Charles Branwhite 1817-1880. The scene is titled on the reverse but it is somewhat illegible. The painting shows a sleepy backwater in dappled light. The work is in excellent untouched condition, it is not signed but attributed on the reverse. The painting is in the original simple gilt frame that is in excellent untouched condition. Charles Branwhite was a highly regarded landscape painter in watercolour and oil. He studied under his father, the miniature portrait painter Nathan Branwhite. His work was initially influenced by his friend and teacher, the landscape painter William James Müller (1812-45). Branwhite regularly exhibited at the British Institution (1843-76), the Royal Academy (1845-1856) and the Society of Painters in Watercolours, of which he was elected an associate member on 12 February 1849.
