A fine and atmospheric landscape, in which a shepherdess is resting by the edge of the forest at the end of the day. French in origin and dating from the last quarter of the 19th Century, our oil on panel may be attributed to an artist of the Barbizon movement. In the village of the same name, just South of Paris near the forest of Fontainebleau, painters whose key interest was landscape and the depiction of country life, had created a created an artist's colony.

Measuring 27 x 17 cm and unsigned, the painting is presented in its original simple frame. The overall framed size is 31 x 22.5 cm.
