Still Life Painting by Oliver Clare

19th century
Description

A beautiful oil painting by sought after artist Oliver Clare (1853 - 1927), dating from c1890. The still life painting depicts a group of pink and white flowers, possibly apple blossoms, and is presented in what appears to be the original decorative gilt frame. The painting is signed, and there is an attribution plaque to the frame.

Oliver Clare (1853~1927) was the son of the renowned still-life artist George Clare. Father and son were both well known for their beautifully executed and precisely detailed still life and flower paintings. Oliver spent most of his artistic life in Birmingham. It is widely assumed that he received most, if not all, of his artistic training from his father as their technique and choice of subject matter are almost identical. Clare exhibited many paintings throughout his lifetime, including at the Royal Society of Artists in Birmingham, the Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool and the Manchester City Art Gallery. Throughout the late 1870's and early 1880's he lived in London where he exhibited several works at the Royal Academy and the Royal Society of British Artists, Suffolk Street.

Condition: The painting itself is in excellent condition. The gilt gesso frame has some cracks through the more delicate areas, but everything is secure and it is otherwise in very good condition.

Dimensions:

Including the frame, the painting measures 27cm wide, 32cm tall and 5.5cm deep.

The painting itself measures approximately 16.7cm wide by 21.7cm tall.
