Oil Painting ‘near Branscombe’ By Adam E Proctor

A fine an atmospheric oil on canvas by Adam Edwin Proctor 1864-1913. The work is titled ‘Near Branscombe’ which is a small seaside village in Devon. It shows a young woman crossing stepping stones to a cottage, all worked in pale and ethereal tones. The painting is signed and dated to the lower right ‘Adam E Proctor RBA’ and dated 1899. Adam Edwin Proctor 1864-1913 was a painter of genre scenes and landscapes. He studied at the Lambeth & Westminster Schools of Art under Frederick Brown, whose style was heavily influenced by the great James McNeill Whistler which in turn influenced Proctor. Proctor was made a full member of the Royal Society of British Artists in 1891 and the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours from 1909. He exhibited widely and prolifically including 34 works at The Royal Academy and an amazing 241 at the Royal Society of British Artists, as well as at every other major society.
