‘On the Sussex Downs’ Landscape Oil Painting

A fine oil on canvas titled ‘On the Sussex Downs’. The landscape depicts farmworkers bringing in the straw on a large cart as in the distance a storm is coming. The piece is beautifully worked in confident bold strokes and use of the paint. The work is signed to the lower right but sadly it is illegible, however the quality of the piece speaks for itself and it must have been by a highly capable artist who will have exhibited. The painting is in good condition having been professionally cleaned and minor repairs made. The frame is the original and has had some overpaint but the whole is in good condition. The work is an excellent example of late Victorian landscape art and is ready to hang. C.1890.
