Small Oil Portrait of the Poet Lord Byron

A charming oil on wooded panel of the poet Lord Byron after the famous original work by George Sanders. The painting is a really good quality representation of the original, beautifully worked in great detail. The piece is in excellent condition having been sympathetically cleaned. The painting is mounted in the original fine quality gilt frame with wonderful soft, faded gilding and just some very minor repairs. The image is one of the archetypal ones for this famous Romantic poet as an adventurer out in exotic climes with his clothing blowing in the wind and was replicated enormously at the height of his fame though this is far better than most. This piece would date to c.1820.
