Here, in this work from around 1940, he’s captured a decorative ensemble with exquisite handling. Note the reflections on the tureen and the gentle Chinese pattern on the vase. The orange is also cleverly done and he’s challenged himself by opening it. The various layers of peel displayed as a cross-section amid a myriad of complex angles.
A sumptuous piece by an intelligent well-trained hand.

Belgian artist Jef Van de Fackere is predominantly known for his portraits, figures, and still lifes in oil and watercolour. Born in Bruges, he studied at the city’s Academy of Fine Arts under Pierre Raoux and Edmond Van Hove. His works are held in numerous public collections.
