What mattress sizes fit vintage beds?

Many older bed frames conform to historical dimensions that differ slightly from modern standard mattress sizes. Adjustments or custom mattresses may be necessary to ensure a proper fit within antique wooden side rails. Checking the internal width and length measurements of the specific frame before purchasing prevents sizing issues with modern bedding.

How do I care for walnut wood?

Walnut furniture benefits from regular dusting with a soft, dry cloth and occasional treatment with appropriate wood waxes to preserve the finish. Avoiding direct sunlight and maintaining stable room humidity prevents the timber veneers from drying out or splitting. Harsh chemical cleaners strip the polished surface and should be avoided entirely during routine maintenance.

Can I dismantle these bed frames?

Most period bedsteads utilise bolt-together corner brackets or slot-in joints designed for dismantling during transport. Careful handling of the heavy timber components during assembly protects the original hardware and veneer edges. Securing the joints evenly ensures the frame remains square and stable once positioned in the bedroom.

How do I identify Art Deco styles?

Art Deco walnut beds feature symmetrical grain patterns, waterfall edges, and smooth, curvilinear silhouettes without heavy period carvings. These mid-twentieth-century designs emphasise clean horizontal and vertical lines characteristic of nineteen-thirties manufacturing. Matching bedside cabinets often integrate directly into the headboard design of these suites.
