How do I clean silver plated candle stands?

Use a soft cloth and a gentle silver cream formulated to protect thin metal layers from abrasion. Avoid aggressive scrubbing that might expose the base metal underneath. Regular dusting with a dry microfiber cloth prevents tarnish build-up in detailed crevices and chased ornament.

What is the difference between Old Sheffield Plate and silver plate?

Old Sheffield Plate involves physically fusing a sheet of real silver onto a thick copper block through heat and pressure before rolling it into sheets. This historic technique differs from later electroplating methods. Electroplated nickel silver, introduced later, uses an electrical current to bond a thin silver coating onto a white metal alloy base.

Are these candle stands weighted?

Most tall candlesticks contain a weighted interior filling, such as resin, plaster, or wood, to provide stability at the base. This weight prevents the tall metal structure from tipping over easily. Solid sterling pieces may have less interior filling, relying instead on heavy gauge metal throughout the stem and base.
