Where should I place a red console table?

These tables suit narrow entrance halls, living rooms, and landings where a flush fit against the wall is required. They provide a functional surface for lamps and decorative items while introducing a bold splash of colour to the interior.

How do I care for a lacquer finish?

Lacquered surfaces require gentle dusting with a soft, dry cloth and protection from direct sunlight and excessive moisture. Avoid chemical polishes that can degrade the historic finish over time.

What is the difference between a console and a side table?

Console tables are specifically proportioned to stand flat against a wall, sometimes anchored for stability. Side tables are typically freestanding items that can move around a room as needed.

Are marble tops original to these tables?

Many nineteenth-century washstands and French console tables were manufactured specifically with fitted marble surfaces. Marble provides a durable and cooling surface that contrasted effectively with painted or gilded timber frames.
