Where should I hang a brass wall mirror?

Hang these mirrors in hallways, living rooms, or above mantelpieces where they can catch and reflect natural light. Their metallic frames complement both dark wood furniture and lighter contemporary walls. Ensure the wall fixings match the weight of the piece, particularly for larger cast brass or wood-backed examples.

How do I clean a vintage brass frame?

Dust the frame gently with a dry, soft cloth to remove surface particles. Avoid harsh chemical polishes that strip away the aged patina built up over decades. Keep moisture away from the mirror edges and the backing board to prevent damage to the glass plate.

Are these mirror plates original?

Many pieces retain their original glass plates, which often display light foxing, minor spots, or age-related distress. These characteristics confirm the age and authenticity of the piece. Replacements do occur over long periods, so inspect the silvering and edges if originality is a priority for your collection.

What is the difference between Victorian and Art Deco brass mirrors?

Victorian brass mirrors often feature ornate cast ornamentation, mask crests, or heavy repoussé work with floral and scroll motifs. They reflect the revival styles and detailed craftsmanship of the 19th century. Art Deco examples lean towards geometric lines, sunburst patterns, and streamlined forms typical of the 1920s and 1930s.
