How do I assemble a knockdown wardrobe?

Knockdown wardrobes dismantle into separate top cornices, base sections, side panels, and doors. You slot the main panels together using internal bolts or wooden pegs before dropping the doors onto their hinges. Having two people makes the assembly straightforward, as aligning the heavy pine sections requires a steady hand and a level floor.

Can I paint a waxed pine armoire?

You can paint these pieces provided you properly prepare the timber surface first. Old wax must be thoroughly stripped or sealed with a suitable primer so the new paint adheres correctly. Many pieces listed are specifically prepared for painting, meaning the previous finishes have been left raw or lightly treated for your own choice of colour.

What is the difference between an armoire and a linen press?

An armoire focuses primarily on full-length hanging space for garments behind one or two tall doors. A linen press traditionally combines upper shelving for folded items with a bank of drawers below. Both forms belong to the wider family of large bedroom storage units from the nineteenth century.

How do I care for antique pine furniture?

Keep your pine furniture away from direct heat sources and sudden temperature shifts to prevent the timber from warping or splitting. Regular dusting and occasional application of beeswax maintain the lustre of waxed surfaces. Avoid using harsh chemical sprays that can strip the natural oils from the old softwood.
