How do I measure for a pew?

Measure the available wall space carefully, keeping in mind that pews often have raked backrests that require a little clearance behind them. Take account of the depth of the seat and the height of the arms to ensure the piece fits comfortably in a hallway or kitchen.

Can pews be used at a dining table?

Many smaller pews and chapel benches work well alongside dining tables, provided the seat height matches your table clearance. Check the depth of the seat base and the presence of any under-seat stretchers that might restrict legroom.

How do I care for a waxed finish?

Maintain waxed pine and oak surfaces by applying a traditional beeswax polish periodically and buffing with a soft cloth. Avoid placing wooden seating near direct heat sources or in damp areas to prevent the timber from splitting.

Were all pews made for churches?

While the majority originated in churches and chapels, similar long benches were produced for schools, courtrooms, and domestic halls. Ecclesiastical examples often feature specific architectural details or markings that indicate their original parish provenance.
