What periods do these pieces span?

The selection covers items from the seventeenth century onward, with significant representation from the Georgian, Victorian, and Edwardian eras. Each period brings distinct moulding profiles and hardware styles. Buyers will find that eighteenth-century pieces lean toward plain or banded oak surfaces, while later Edwardian examples often offer lighter proportions suited to more modest rooms.

How were linen presses used?

Linen presses served as major storage furniture in traditional bedrooms before fitted wardrobes became common. The upper section typically held folded linens on sliding trays or shelves. Lower drawer banks accommodated smaller garments and accessories, keeping textiles protected from dust and damp air.

Are these items made of solid oak?

Many listings specify solid oak construction, particularly among Georgian and earlier pieces. Some items incorporate secondary timbers such as mahogany or walnut inlay for decorative contrast. Handles and hardware frequently utilise brass or iron, while internal drawer linings may vary depending on the workshop and date.

How do I identify a Georgian chest?

Georgian chests of drawers often display characteristic proportions, bracket feet, and traditional brass drawer pulls. Look for oak or mahogany construction featuring panelled sides and banded details. Earlier eighteenth-century variants may also include secret drawers or compact proportions typical of bachelor chests from that time.
