What is a brushing slide?

A brushing slide is a pull-out wooden shelf positioned above the top drawer of a chest. It provided a temporary surface for folding garments or sorting papers. Cabinetmakers integrated these slides flush into the frame so they remained hidden until needed.

What is a chest on chest?

A chest on chest is a tall, two-part storage piece where a slightly narrower upper chest sits directly upon a larger lower chest. This form appeared during the Georgian period to provide extensive vertical storage. Because they separate into two sections, these tall pieces were easier to transport and manoeuvre within historic homes.

How do I care for mahogany drawers?

Mahogany drawers require stable indoor humidity levels and protection from direct sunlight to prevent the timber from drying out or fading. Dusting regularly with a dry cloth keeps the surface clean. Applying a traditional beeswax polish occasionally helps nourish the wood and maintain its natural lustre.
