How do I operate the drop leaves?

Lift the hinged flap until it sits level with the central top, then swing the supporting gateleg or wooden bracket outward from the frame to lock it underneath. To lower the leaf, swing the support back toward the centre and gently guide the flap down into its resting position.

Are these tables sturdy enough for daily use?

Solid timber frames and properly aligned gateleg supports provide reliable stability for everyday items like cups and books. Checking that the swing legs lock firmly into position ensures the extended leaves remain secure during use.

How do I tell an Edwardian table from a Victorian one?

Edwardian tables often display lighter mahogany frames, sometimes with delicate wood inlay or double spider leg configurations. Victorian pieces tend to utilise walnut or heavier oak constructions with oval top profiles. Examining the underlying timber and any decorative marquetry helps distinguish the lighter Edwardian aesthetic from earlier Victorian designs.

Can a small drop leaf table work as a lamp table?

Compact surface areas and narrow profiles make these tables well-suited for holding small lamps beside seating. Folding down one leaf allows the furniture to fit snugly against a wall.
