Are these necklaces supplied with their original chains?

Many pieces retain their original period chains, particularly those from the early twentieth century where the chain formed an integral part of the overall design aesthetic. Artisans often matched the link style to the pendant geometry. Where a chain is a later replacement, it is selected to complement the historic character of the pendant while ensuring secure daily wear for the owner.

How can I tell an Arts and Crafts piece from Art Nouveau?

Arts and Crafts designs tend to emphasise hand-hammered surfaces, visible construction details, and medieval or folk revival motifs. The focus remains on the integrity of the materials and artisanal craftsmanship. Art Nouveau pieces favour asymmetrical, flowing plant tendrils, whiplash lines, and translucent enamel work like plique-à-jour to capture organic movement and natural forms.

Can I wear these historic necklaces every day?

While these items were built to last, their age and delicate components such as enamel and pearls mean they warrant thoughtful care during regular wear. Storing them flat in a lined box prevents the chain from tangling and protects the drop pendant. Treating them as special occasion wear helps preserve the fragile enamel cells and secure the delicate pearl drops for future generations.
