What periods do these cabinets come from?

The pieces span the late Victorian and Edwardian eras, with many dating from around 1880 through to the 1920s. This period saw a strong revival of eighteenth century neoclassical designs. Craftsmen during this time utilised traditional techniques alongside updated machinery to produce lighter decorative furniture for contemporary homes.

Where should I place a demi-lune cabinet?

A demi-lune cabinet is shaped with a flat back to fit directly against a wall, making it ideal for narrow hallways, landings, or living room corners. Their curved fronts soften the geometry of a room without projecting too far into the floor space. They function well beneath a wall mirror or alongside seating as an accent piece.

How do I care for satinwood surfaces?

Satinwood requires gentle dusting with a soft, dry cloth and protection from direct sunlight to prevent the timber and painted panels from fading. Avoid using modern silicone-based polishes which can build up and dull the delicate finish over time. Maintaining a stable room temperature helps protect the underlying veneer from lifting.

Are these cabinets used for storage?

Many of these pieces feature internal shelving enclosed by wooden or glazed doors, making them suitable for storing books, glassware, or tableware. Music cabinets provide specialised compartmentalized storage for sheet media. Bedside variants offer compact enclosed space for personal items while maintaining a decorative presence.
